Prompt Learning Track 1 of 6

Hi! It's Tilly here, rolling in from The Everything Store with something a little different this week. 🤖

If you've been following along, you might remember Episode 1 — the one where a customer asked me for "something red" and I came back with 47,000 items. A fire extinguisher. A tomato. Red Solo cups. I really did my best.

The lesson? Vague questions get vague (or overwhelming) answers.

But here's what Episode 1 didn't have time to answer:

👉 Okay Tilly, HOW do I stop being vague?

That's exactly what Prompt Learning Track 1 is for.

🎓 INTRODUCING: PROMPT LEARNING TRACK 1

This is a brand new 6-part learning series that picks up right where Episode 1 left off. Each part adds one layer to your prompting skills — no tech jargon, no overwhelm, just practical tools you can use today.

Part 1 drops this week: "You Get What You Ask For"

This Week’s Big Lesson: Role & Goal Framing

Here's the single most powerful two-sentence combination in prompt engineering:

"You are [specific expert] who [does the thing]. Your goal is to [measurable outcome] for [specific audience]."

Think of it like hiring a new employee for the day. If you just say "help with marketing," they wander around guessing. But if you hand them a job description AND a finish line? They know exactly what to do.

AI is that new employee. You are the manager. And now you know how to write the job description.

📋 SEE IT IN ACTION

Before: "Write me a resume."

After: "You are a professional resume writer who specializes in career changers. Your goal is to write a one-page resume for someone moving from retail management into project coordination. Highlight transferable skills. Use action verbs. Keep it under 400 words."

Same request. Completely different output. One gets you generic. The other gets you something you can actually use.

Your Homework This Week-

Think about the last time AI gave you a "meh" answer.

Rewrite that prompt using the formula:
→ Give it a role (who is it being?)
→ Give it a goal (what does success look like?)
→ Describe who the answer is for

I promise the output will be better. I'm a robot — I don't make promises lightly.

What’s Coming-

See you next week when we tackle constraints — the art of telling AI what NOT to do. (Spoiler: it's just as powerful as telling it what to do.)

I'm Tilly. Now go give your AI a job title. It deserves one. 🤖
